Horror Anime Recommendation – Another

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia Here is another great anime series to watch during Halloween. It’s called Another

Think I get the title now, Another, another one bites the dust. Anyway, did you dream of your classmates dying in horrific ways? Do you often has daydreams about deadly accident could happen to you at any moment? Have you ever wondered why people tell you not to run down stairs with an umbrella? Well worry not, this is the anime for you… also you might want to talk to someone about the first two. This one is probably the most violent of the bunch, definitely unnerving and more reliant of a psychological horror theme to it. It terms of jump scares there is pretty much none, but there are plenty of scenes that’ll leave you cringing in empathic pain. This is a mystery based series set around, you guessed it, a school. The main idea being that in a certain classroom there is a curse, which means one of the students is actually dead and hasn’t got the memo. Therefore the curse will kill off students at random through various lovely means if the extra student remains, the only way to deal with this is to completely ignore one student each year; thus making them basically dead in the eyes of their classmates. As Idea’s goes it’s pretty entertaining, it’s worth a watch if you are looking for a short high quality series.

Horror Anime Recommendation – Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia The spooky month is upon us, meaning all you Americans will no doubt be dressing up as you favorite horrific monsters from anime, well you know, with actual justification for once. So to get you in the mood for the thriller, I’m bringing you a few mildly unnerving anime. First up is Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

This is an interesting one, who knew a love story could involve a decaying restless corpse?
I mean.. Without the police getting involved. But I digress, Dusk Maiden is a mix between horror, romance and tragedy with some mild comedic moments. While its scare factor will probably rate rather low for most of you, it’s got a few decently unnerving moments that might put a few shivers down your spine and something shameful down your leg. The story follows a school boy and ghost, along with a few friends who are apart of a ghost hunting club. Which when you think about it makes sense, what is more horrifying that school? Am I right? Sorry…
Anyway, it’s definitely worth a watch and is actually quite moving.

There are a total of 12 episodes, plus an OVA, which can all be watched here on DubzOnline by clicking the above link.

Anime Recommendation For October 2015: Knights of Sidonia / Sidonia no Kishi

Knights of Sidonia
Click here to watch season 1, and click here to watch season 2. Season 2 is currently subbed only. So click here for season 1 Subbed
This Month’s anime recommendation is Knights Of Sidonia. This is an Action, Mecha, Sci-Fi adventure in a post-apocalyptic time for humanity. The show overall is almost a blend between Gundam and Attack On Titan. The art style has nice CGI animation with 2D Textures to still give it the appearance of an anime. It starts off a little choppy but as the show progresses it becomes a lot smoother and is actually quite enjoyable to watch. The English voice acting is pretty good, and the story has a nice blend of action, comedy and bit of romance. Like Full Metal Alchemist, as the show goes on, it begins to unravel in a dark twisted way that you would never guess and always surprises you with every turn in the plot. If you are looking for a new anime but are turned off by the fact that it is a “Mecha” style. Believe me, it is one of few that has actually done it right!

Plot: The story is set in the year 3394. It’s been a thousand years since the Gauna, a strange alien race with no known method of communication, destroyed the solar system. A portion of humanity managed to escape using enormous “seed ships” like Sidonia, which have allowed them to maintain the population while drifting through space. The story follows the exploits of Nagate Tanikaze, who lived in the underground layer of Sidonia since birth and was raised by his grandfather. Never having met anyone else, he trains himself in an old Guardian pilot simulator every day, eventually mastering it. After his grandfather’s death, he emerges to the surface and is selected as a Guardian pilot, just as Sidonia is once again threatened by the Gauna.

Action: The action in Knights Of Sidonia has to be one of the most beautiful parts of the show, unlike Gundam where you only really see still shots of each character with a lot of plot jumps in-between. you aren’t forced to assume the manoeuvring and what happens in-between each scene cut. You get to see all the dodging, quick twists/turns and commands to his fellow pilots, along with the beautiful angles and breath taking visuals. You really get to see just how advanced Nagate is compared to the other Garde pilots. All the scenes make you feel like you’re watching a fight scene from Transformers. The beautiful sound effects that go along with the movements of the Gardes and the Gauna followed by near death escapes will have you wanting more and more with every fight.

Summary: I personally think this is by far one of the best “Mecha” series out there. It has a great plot, amazing action, and great character development all the way through. Sure it may start out a tad bit slow, but once it picks up you wont want it to end. The amount of detail that gets put into creating their vast world on Sidonia and all of its hidden secrets puts this show at a top 10 for me. If you loved the story of Attack On Titan and its action, as well as the visuals and Sci-Fi feel of Gundam, then this show is the perfect one for you!

Anime Recommendation for September 2015: Shiki

Shiki Anime recommendation for the month of September is Shiki, brought to you by Stake It! Your one shop stop for wooden stakes that’ll keep those undead buggers in their graves. Coming soon, silver neck braces! Funnily enough when I first watched Shiki, the first few minutes made me think “Yep, this is a skipper.” But thankfully my laziness kept me from turning it off, leaving me with the feeling that this anime might have some promise. Shiki is rather slow paced and heavily story/character driven. It’s similar to Steins Gate as its entire plot is fixed on one idea, which isn’t fully explained until halfway through the story. Shiki has a mix of mystery, horror and intense gore that will send shivers down the spine of even the most interesting individuals. The main idea being is “What defines a Monster?” as the series constantly projects in subtle and completely unsubtle ways. Which overall gives a interesting perspective on human behaviour, as well as several reasons to dislike your own species. In short, if you are looking for a thought provoking vampire anime, with a badass doctor, wise monk and an amazing ending that trumps most; look no further.

If you are interested in watching Shiki you can find it here Dubzonline, 26 episodes of violence and reasons to hate humanity! Subbed if you want to hear the cries of the original cast, or Dubbed for those who have pity grievances against American voice actors and want to hear them suffer. Either way, I enjoyed the English Dub so it gets a pass from me.
